Residual Municipal Solid Wastes Within A Rotary Drum Reactor: Impact Of Retention Time

In the favourable current context for the development of biological treatment of Residual Municipal Solid Wastes (RMSW), the Rotary Drum Reactor (RDR) is a pre-treatment tool increasingly used in construction or rehabilitation facilities. RDR allows a better preparation of waste before mechanical sorting and biological treatment. This preparation process, recognized by profession’s actors, is however a tool with limited feedback. A study was launched by the Cemagref (Rennes France), to assess the impact of retention time on biodegradation, particle size reduction and quality of RMSW processed with a RDR.
